Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) ruled unconstitutional
In a federal court ruling, mandated use of blocking technology was ruled unconstitutional.   The American Library Association has more information on the CIPA ruling.

The next Education Council Meeting will be held Friday, July 19, 2002 from 9:00 AM--12:00 PM CT in Omaha, Nebraska; Creighton University West Campus, 11111 Mill Valley Road.

State Government

Information Security Begins With You!
The NITC is sponsoring an Information Technology Security Awareness Day, which will be hosted by the Department of Roads. The all-day event will be held on Monday, July 15, 2002, at the DOR auditorium. Topics will include IT policies and procedures, privacy, incident response, security management, and secure development. Winn Schwartau, a nationally known security expert and author of Pearl Harbor Dot Com, will be the keynote speaker. The event is targeted to state government agencies, but is open to all political subdivisions. An agenda and additional information will be available on the NITC Web site by July 1.

Designing Accessible Technology for All Users
The Nebraska Assistive Technology Partnership is giving a free seminar on Accessible Technology on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 in Lincoln. For more information visit the ATP Web site or contact the ATP at (402)471-0734 or atp@atp.state.ne.us.

Agency information technology plans were due in April. If your agency has not submitted a plan, forms and instructions are available for downloading. If you have any questions contact Rick Becker at rbecker@cio.state.ne.us.

State Government Council Meeting
The next State Government Council meeting will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 1:30 in the State Office Building, Lower Level B.
